Nuru massage is a Japanese style of body-to-body massage in which the masseuse uses a smooth, slippery gel made from nori seaweed and glides over you with her whole body, not just her hands. The name comes from the Japanese word for slippery. It’s playful and close, and quite unlike an ordinary massage, which is why nuru massage is one of the most searched-for massage styles in London. Ladies who offer it list nuru massage on their profiles.

What is nuru massage?

In a nuru massage, both of you are covered in a thin layer of warm gel, and she uses her arms, torso and legs to slide across your back and then your front in long, unhurried movements. The gel lets two bodies move against each other almost without friction, which gives nuru its particular feel: almost weightless, and very close.

It’s a sensual massage rather than a therapeutic one. Nobody is working on knots in your shoulders; the point is touch, closeness and a certain amount of fun.

Where nuru massage comes from

Nuru began in Japan, in the private massage parlours of its cities, and the word itself comes from nurunuru, Japanese for slippery or slick. It has since spread well beyond Japan and is now offered in most big cities, London included. The basic idea hasn’t changed much on the way: special gel, a waterproof surface and a full-body glide.

The nori seaweed gel: what makes nuru different

The gel is what separates nuru from every other massage. Traditional nuru gel is made from nori seaweed extract mixed with warm water, and good versions are colourless and odourless, with almost no taste. Compared with massage oil, it has three advantages:

  • It stays slippery for much longer, and a splash of warm water revives it when it starts to dry.
  • It sits on the skin rather than soaking in, so the glide stays even from start to finish.
  • It rinses off easily with water and doesn’t leave the greasy film oil can.

Commercial nuru gels often contain other ingredients alongside the seaweed. If you have a seaweed or iodine allergy, or very sensitive skin, mention it when you book so the concierge can check with her first.

What a nuru massage session is like

A nuru session starts in the shower, because the gel works best on clean skin. She’ll then lay a waterproof sheet or mat over the bed or floor, warm the gel and begin with her hands, spreading it over your back while you lie face down. Gradually she uses more of her body, gliding in long strokes, before you turn over and she continues on the front. At the end you both shower again to rinse the gel away.

It’s intimate, but it’s also light-hearted: people often laugh the first time they try to move on a nuru sheet. As always, our rates are for time and escortship, anything further is a private matter between consenting adults, and she can decline anything she isn’t comfortable with.

Nuru vs body to body vs tantric massage

Nuru is a particular kind of body to body massage. Both involve her massaging you with her body, but standard body to body uses oil and needs no special setup, while nuru uses gel and a waterproof sheet and feels noticeably more slippery. Tantric massage is different again: slower, quieter and built around breathing. Our guide to erotic massage in London compares all of them.

Practical points: showers, sheets and why incall suits nuru best

  • Showers. One before and one after. Allow ten minutes or so for each within your booking.
  • Sheets. Nuru needs a waterproof sheet or mat. Ordinary bedding soaks up the gel and stays damp.
  • Floors. Anything the gel touches becomes slippery. Step carefully when you get up.
  • Hair. The gel washes out with water, but you may want to keep your head out of it.
  • Time. With two showers, an hour can feel brief. Many clients book longer.

For all of these reasons, an incall at her apartment is the natural home for nuru. She has the sheet, the gel, a good shower and a room set up for it. Many of our ladies host in Earl’s Court, Gloucester Road and Bayswater. Some will do nuru as an outcall, but not all, so ask the concierge before booking it to a hotel. Our guide to incall vs outcall explains the wider differences.

Questions

Nuru comes from the Japanese word nurunuru, meaning slippery. It refers to the smooth seaweed gel used in the massage, which lets two bodies glide together with almost no friction.

Nuru gel is generally gentle on the skin and rinses off easily with water. If you have a seaweed or iodine allergy or very sensitive skin, mention it when you book so we can check with her.

Nuru is a type of body to body massage. The difference is the slippery seaweed gel and the waterproof sheet, which make it feel smoother and more playful than a body to body massage with oil.

Some ladies offer nuru as an outcall, but not all, because it needs a waterproof sheet and a good shower. Ask the concierge before you book. Incall at her apartment is usually the easier choice.

Because you shower before and after, an hour can feel short. Many clients prefer two hours, which with us is around £500.
